A: The TDT is a dance team affiliated with UBC Dance Horizons. Every year, we perform at a variety of different events: UBC Rec events, nightclubs, local compeitions to name a few! We are a dedicated group of dancers, each from our own unique backgrounds. This creates an interesting group dynamic which helps bring together a compelling group of dancers that bond and perform well together. We are all students at UBC.
A: Anyone with dance experience is welcome to audition. As our performances consist mainly of jazz & hip hop, training in these disciplines is an asset. However, we also welcome people from other disciplines that work well in a team environment, be it breakdancers, gymnasts, acros, etc.

A: Of course!
A: Everyone participates in the audition which consists of three parts: a short warm-up, jazz exercises across the floor (e.g. jumps, pirouettes), and a hip hop combination. The combination will be taught by one of our choreographers and performed in small groups. The entire audition is judged by the choreographer, and a panel including the coordinator(s) and former Dance Team members. If the panel feels they could not accurately rate the dancers' abilities from their first performance, dancers may be asked to stay to perform the routine again.
The audition is like a regular dance class, but involving a mix of disciplines! Dancers who are successful in making the team will receive a phone call from a coordinator within a day of the audition asking them to join the team.
A: We practice on a biweekly schedule, one that best fits with studio time and team members schedule. Our current rehearsals happen from 5-7 on Tuesdays and 10-12 on Saturdays. On weeks when we perform, dancers will be required to take part in extra practices and this may require additional 2 to 4 hours.
A: There is a $150 dollar annual fee for the team that every participating member is required to pay. This fee covers professional choreographers, costumes, a photoshoot, facility rentals, competition entry fees, etc. Our team works hard to benefit its members by holding fundraiser events where proceeds go directly back into supporting our team members.
